Breaking Barriers: A Woman’s Journey in Security Leadership

By Tiziana | Head of Sales, Stallion Security

As a woman in a male-dominated industry, I have learned that leadership is not about gender—it’s about capability, resilience, and a relentless drive to succeed.

On International Women’s Day, I reflect on my journey, the challenges I’ve faced, and the victories I’ve celebrated in a sector traditionally reserved for men. The security industry, with its high-stakes environment and demand for trust, has not always been welcoming to women. Yet, here I stand—not just as a woman, but as a leader.

Why I Chose the Security Industry

My career has always been fueled by two things: a passion for sales and a desire to make a real impact. Sales is not just about numbers; it’s about understanding people, solving problems, and providing solutions that matter. When I entered the security industry, I saw an opportunity to merge my expertise in sales with an industry that literally protects lives and businesses.

Over 26 years, I have built a career on the foundation of delivering value, earning trust, and staying ahead of industry trends. Climbing the ranks was not easy, but it was worth every challenge. When I joined Stallion Security, I was drawn to the company’s commitment to innovation, integrity, and excellence. Through hard work and a deep understanding of our clients’ needs, I eventually earned the role of Head of Sales—a position that allows me to drive growth, lead teams, and shape the future of security solutions in Africa.

But my journey wasn’t without obstacles.

Breaking Barriers in a Male-Dominated Industry

Walking into boardrooms where I was often the only woman, I knew that credibility had to be earned—not given. In the early days, I faced skepticism. There was an expectation that I needed to prove myself twice as much to be taken seriously.

So, I did.

I immersed myself in the technical aspects of security, ensuring that when I spoke, I did so with confidence and expertise. I built relationships based on trust, focusing on results rather than proving a point. Over time, my gender became secondary—what mattered was my ability to deliver solutions that worked.

Through resilience, continuous learning, and an unwavering belief in my capabilities, I shattered the notion that security is a “man’s world.” Today, I don’t just belong in this industry—I lead in it.

Leadership in Security: What It Takes

Success in security isn’t about power, it’s about influence. Leadership is earned through trust, credibility, and the ability to inspire. In this industry, people don’t just follow titles—they follow those who listen, understand, and empower others.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that leadership is about connection. Whether it’s with my team or our clients, understanding people is key. In security, trust is everything. Clients trust us to protect their assets, employees trust us to lead them to success, and as leaders, we must uphold that trust at all times.

The industry is changing, and so is the perception of women in leadership.

The Future of Women in Security

Over the years, I’ve seen more women stepping into decision-making roles in security. We are not just part of the conversation—we are shaping it. But there is still work to be done.

We need to break stereotypes that suggest security leadership requires a tough, emotionless approach. The truth? Women bring a unique strength to this industry—our ability to listen, empathize, and think strategically gives us a powerful edge.

That’s why I am launching a platform to bring together women in health, safety, and security. This initiative will create a space where women can meet, share experiences, and mentor one another. We will invite inspiring speakers, build a network of support, and most importantly, ensure that the next generation of women in security have a strong foundation to thrive.

Watch this space—because we are not just stepping into leadership; we are shaping the future.

Advice to Young Women Entering Male-Dominated Industries

To the young women out there, dreaming of entering industries where they are the minority, my message is simple:

Believe in yourself—The first step to success is self-confidence. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect others to?
Be resilient—Challenges will come, but let them fuel you, not break you.
Never stop learning—Knowledge is your power. Master your field, stay ahead of trends, and always be prepared.
Build strong relationships—Surround yourself with mentors and allies who believe in your potential.
Own your space—You deserve to be here. Walk into every room with confidence and leave an impact.

Women in Africa are rising. We are breaking barriers, changing narratives, and creating confidence in every space we enter. Let’s continue to support, uplift, and inspire one another.
